This is becasue all contend for virtual memory resources and mappings from the same logical disk will slow down the performance or cause operational conflicts (on the Windows Machines, not applicable to Linux). The MuOnline Server files need to be installed into a D: drive, (second partition, disk or directory that points into a D: drive (this can be done if you use the SUBST command – type SUBST /? into a Command Prompt for help).Using the SUBST method (not recommended), you can create a folder named “D” on the C drive. Additionally neither should be installed on the same logical disk as the operating system. It is recommended that either the Database Server and the GameServer are on seperate machines or at least seperate disks. MySQL requires more work and advanced skills. Current version has a floating point decimal error that will toast your Win2K machine and make you “Format C:” and start again.
Use your high speed internet and download all the files from the first section, which are:WinAce or WinRARMS-SQL or MySQLIIS or Apache (if IIS not part of your OS)MuServer FilesMu Registration FilesMu Startup File (click here)Memory Cleanup Routine (click here)Now install WinAce or WinRAR (whichever you downloaded – WinAce Recommended)ĭo not install the Memory Cleanup on Linux (not made for it and not necessary) or Win2K. The following section run you step-by-step through the installation. If you have a D: drive, simply extract the server files into the default path D:\MuServer. Use the SUBST D: C:\D (or the folder name you created). If you need to use this method, you must unzip the server files into C:\D or your desired folder. We do recommend this for busy public sites because of bandwidth and performance issues. However since this quide is written for the novice and intermediate user we will only discuss the installation of MuOnline Server into 1 computer.MuOnline Server needs to be installed into a D: drive, this can be a second partition, a second hard disk or a directory that points into a D: drive (this can be done if you use the SUBST command – type SUBST /? into a Command Prompt for help).Using the SUBST method, create a folder named “D” on the C drive. It is not recommended because 1.) you use 3 computers (expensive) when you can use 1 2.) It is more complex, especially if you are going public 3.) You will need additional equipment to monitor, house your CPUs.You can use 3 computers, if you have them, but they must be configured as 3 servers. You can install SQL Server, MuOnline Server and IIS all on different machines. Minimum is C: & D: Logical or Physical drives.
You at least need to change the default virtual memory settings to 2-4Gb for best performance (you should have a minimum of 1Gb physical memory – which is recommended). If using one machine for the Game Server itis recommended that you partition your drive(s) with the following three partitions:OS – at least 5GbDS Server – at least 50GbGame Server – at least 20Gb
Advanced users may know how to do this, but this quide is written for the novice and intermediate user. The disadvantage on W2K is that you need more memory. Do not try to install both Apache and IIS simultaneously as they will contest for the same machine resources and cause problems. * WinRar or WinAce (for unzipping files) – WinRar here or WinAce hereīetter OS(s) for this job is Linux, Windows 2000 Server or Windows XP Professional, because:You can install SQL Server 2000 on the Windows Versions or MySQL on Linux (you will have to convert MS-SQL Data FilesYou can install MuOnline Server filesYou can install your LocalHost (IIS for Windows, Apache for Windows or Linux). * MuOnline Account Registration files – get them here * If you want the 0.97d server files, you can get them here * MuOnline Server files of course – get them here (official file set with v97, v97d & tools) or here (Version 0.97) (Password is ragezone) You can use MySQL but performance will be unacceptable). * A computer for the actual MuOnline Server with OS installed (No Win98 or Win Me, because you can’t install SQL Server 2000. * IIS or Apache installed (Creates “LOCALHOST” – Needed if you want to have a web interface for creating new users). * A computer with MS-SQL Server 2000 or MySQL installed – You can get MS-SQL Eval copy here and MySQL here. * 80Gb Hard Disk Space Minimum – 100Gb Recommended * 2.2GHz CPU Speed Minimum – 3.0+ Recommended * 512 Mb RAM (Physical Memory) – 1Gb Recommended * HighSpeed Internet (for file downloads)
